The South Devon What’s On diary for 2019 is already bursting with big events – and you can be here to see them all. Our Brixham Holiday Park is perfectly situated for you to catch all the action as the English Riviera comes to life with a packed calendar full of great family events.
Here are just some of the big events happening in 2019…
Brixham is one of Britain’s biggest fishing ports. And you can get behind the scenes and experience the sights and sounds of the town’s fish market with Brixham Fish Market Tours. Get ready for an early start (6am) and see the hustle and bustle of the world famous Brixham Fish Market, culminating in a delicious fish breakfast at Rockfish. The tours take place twice monthly, starting on April 24th.
The Brixham Pirate Festival takes place from 4th – 6th May and sees locals and visitors alike dress up as pirates for a day of family fun and entertainment! Just remember to pack your costume!
Dartmouth is a beautiful coastal town and should definitely be on your list of places to visit. It’s popular Dart Music Festival, from 10th-12th May will see over 100 performances throughout the town, spanning almost every musical genre – and it’s all free!
The Devon County Show is billed as ‘Devon’s big day out’ and is the county’s flagship event. It’s a showcase for aspects of life and work in the county as well as entertainment, shopping and good food. Head over to Exeter’s Westpoint Arena for the show, which takes place from 16th-18th May.
Brix Fest is back for 2019, from 25th-29th May. BrixFest enters 2019 in its eighth year having firmly established itself as one of Brixham’s leading festivals. From live music, stalls and stands to a grand fireworks display and sailing regattas – the festival celebrates all that is great about Brixham!
Brixham Heritage Sailing Regatta will take place from 25th-26th May: The Brixham Heritage Sailing Regatta has its roots in the Sailing Trawler races that have been held in Torbay since the early 1800’s. In 1914, King George V presented the Perpetual Challenge Cup also popularly known as the ‘King George V Cup’ – it will be incorporated into part of the Brix Fest event.
Brixham Holiday Park has joined forces with the town’s heritage museum to Mark the 75th Anniversary of D-Day on June 6th. To commemorate the historic event, our Bay View Bar has teamed up with Brixham Heritage Museum to host a series of special events – we’d love to see you there to mark the anniversary. Starting at 12pm, Brixham Heritage Museum President John Risdon guides a walk along ‘the American Way’. A gentle stroll beginning and ending at attend. (Donations to the Museum are alway appreciated). 12-4pm: The Bay View Bar will serve a delicious lunch menu and selling a special WW2 Afternoon Tea. 2-3pm: Working with Sound Communities ‘Hear & Now’ Project we will be hosting a Live Radio Show at The Bay View Bar on ‘Brixham and World War Two’. The popular Brixham Trawler Race takes place on June 15th and sees skippers dress their boats with bunting before they battle it out in a two lap race around the Bay. At the same time there’s fun and festivities on the harbour quayside to raise money for local charities.
Torbay Air Show 1st June – 2nd June. Breathtaking air displays over the stunning South Devon bay. Free entertainment for all the family on Paignton Green. This event is FREE.
Come and watch or even take part in the Torbay Half Marathon in nearby Paignton! Held on June 23rd, it will see the 28th running of this very popular seaside event; with demand for places steadily growing, early entry to this event is advised, as we may well be full before race day. The Torbay Half Marathon route is a traffic free two lap route which starts and finishes on Paignton seafront, taken in the stunning coastal views across Torbay.
Brixham Hap’in is a full two days of music from local bands. 5th July – 6th July.
There’s 8 days of fulfilled family entertainment on offer at Paignton Festival. From 27th July – 4th Aug, there’s live music to car shows, the carnival is great fun for all. The event culminates with a giant and colourful procession.
Paington Regatta is a great week of family fun on Paignton Green featuring rowing, athletics, cricket, tennis as well as live music, RNLI and coastguard demonstrations, fairground rides and a fireworks finale. 10th August – 18th August
Torbay Steam Fair, on the 2nd-4th August, is one of the biggest events on the English Riviera calendar, attracting hundreds of visitors and exhibitors from across the South West. Situated just outside Brixham, this 3-day event is a must for the family, with classic vehicles, working steam engines and a wide variety of displays.
Torbay Royal Regatta is spread over 5 days is one of the region’s marquee events. There’s a 10k run, the popular sailing events, a huge fireworks display and, of course, the Red Arrows display across the bay – an event not to be missed! 22nd August – 26th August.
England’s Seafood Coast will play host to a feast for all the senses between Friday 20th September and Sunday 6th October 2018. For 2 weeks you will be able to immerse yourself in England’s Seafood FEAST, eating some of the best seafood in the world and experiencing the very best the English Riviera has to offer.
Brixham Fish Market is at the heart of England’s Seafood Coast. It’s a good place to start your own personal Feast – take an early-morning tour of the only live fish auction in the country, followed by breakfast at Mitch Tonks’ Rockfish Restaurant next door. This truly unique experience gives a new perspective on the fish on your plate – it is hugely popular so booking in advance is required.
